SIPTU representatives are seeking an urgent meeting with management at the Pfizer manufacturing facility in Ringaskiddy, County Cork, following the announcement yesterday (Wednesday, 22nd April) of 102 voluntary redundancies at the site. It is expected that the move will impact up to 70 SIPTU members.

SIPTU Sector Organiser, Andrea Cleere, said: 'This announcement comes as a significant blow to the workforce, particularly as members had previously worked through a Voluntary Redundancy programme at the Ringaskiddy plant as recently as 2024.

“These workers and their families will be in deep shock today as they absorb this information and assess the potential impact on an individual and collective basis. The Union will ensure that every resource is made available to workers as part of this voluntary redundancy process.'

She added: 'Pfizer has maintained a presence at the Ringaskiddy site since 1969, developing the operation into a global leader in innovation and a key process development centre. SIPTU representatives will now engage with management to commence the 30-day statutory consultation period to review all available options to mitigate the number of job losses.'

SIPTU Organiser, Ciara McMahon Flavin, said: 'Pfizer has been a prominent and good employer in Cork for many years. It is disappointing to see an innovator in pharmaceutical manufacturing once again announcing a significant reduction in staff. SIPTU will be requesting an urgent meeting on-site to discuss all options available to our members.'
