He said he didn’t like Mondays, but he definitely likes Skibbereen on a Wednesday: Bob Geldof came to town for a bit of shopping today, bringing his wife and a bit of Boomtown buzz.

Bob was spotted on a stroll through Skibbereen town centre together with his partner, French actress Jeanne Marine.

The pair were seen on Wednesday afternoon visiting shops in the town, including on Main Street and North Street where Jeanne Marine went into Embellish Home Interiors while Sir Bob took a photo of North Street on his phone.

The Boomtown Rats founder (73) was wearing a black coat and dark skinny jeans, with a brown corduroy cap pulled low over his face, trying to look inconspicuous.

Jeanne Marine (59) carried a paper shopping bag and wore a dark jacket with a hood to avoid the rain. He told the Southern Star: 'I'm just in town with the missus browsing and cruising around, having a lovely time. We're playing in Kilkenny over the weekend. That's why I'm here.'

The Boomtown Rats will play a gig at The Hub, Cillin Hill in Kilkenny this Saturday.

And earlier this week on Monday, Bob Geldof and Jeanne Marine spent time in Clonakilty, enjoying a  soup and toastie at O’Donovan’s Hotel. The hotel shared the excitement over the visit on its social media channel.

The Dublin-born musician is no stranger to West Cork. In 2022, he took part in the West Cork History Festival in Skibbereen, reading a letter featured in a film about An Gorta Mór and global famines.

He also visited the area in 2018 for the renowned Famine Exhibition at Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre.
