A ROSSCARBERY restaurant was closed after health officers found signs of rodent activity.

Lily House at South Square was one of five premises nationwide handed closure orders in April for breaching Irish and EU food safety laws.

After inspecting the restaurant on April 24th, an HSE official said in his report the closure came after ‘an active rodent infestation in the food storeroom and kitchen area where food is stored, handled and prepared’.

The report said there was evidence of rodent droppings in multiple areas of the food store room and kitchen at the Chinese restaurant.

Greg Dempsey, Chief Executive of The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), reminded food businesses of the importance of always maintaining robust food safety standards.

‘Consumers have a right to safe food and food businesses have a legal responsibility to ensure the food they provide to consumers is safe to eat,’ said Mr Dempsey.

Lily House has been contacted for comment.
