A fuel support scheme has been announced for fishing and aquaculture vessels across West Cork.
The Fishing and Aquaculture Registered Vessel Fuel Support Scheme will provide up to €15 million in supports for fishing and aquaculture vessel owners impacted by the high fuel costs as a result of the war in the Middle East.

over 6m LOA can apply online through Bord Iascaigh Mhara’s (BIM) grants management system and will be required to submit receipted fuel costs. Smaller vessels under 6m LOA will receive a flat-rate payment and will not need to provide fuel receipts.
Welcoming the announcement, Senator Noel O’Donovan said: ‘Our fishing and aquaculture sectors are under enormous pressure due to rising operating costs, particularly fuel. This support scheme recognises the real challenges facing vessel owners and provides practical assistance at a critical time of the year.
‘The fishing industry is hugely important to the economy and identity of coastal West Cork communities. Many operators have been deeply affected by international instability and increased fuel prices, so this support is both necessary and welcome.’
All eligible operators are encouraged to apply through BIM before the closing date of June 12th, 2026
