A MAN who ordered cannabis in bulk was not selling it for profit but just to close friends, Bandon District Court heard.

Albin Ambroz (46) of 3 Castle Court, Castle Road, Bandon pleaded guilty to the possession of cannabis and the possession of cannabis for the purpose of sale or supply.

Sgt Eimear O’Connell told Judge Joanne Carroll that at 5.30pm on March 14th last a drugs search was carried out by the Cork County Divisional Drugs Unit at the accused’s home.

‘Cannabis valued at €690 as well as drugs paraphernalia were seized and Mr Ambroz was the target of the drugs search,’ said Sgt O’Connell.

The court heard he has nine previous convictions including two for the possession of drugs and others for road traffic offences.

Defence solicitor Veronica Neville said her client, who is originally from Poland, was very co-operative and when interviewed by garda he made full admissions.

‘He has just working English and probably didn’t help himself when being interviewed. He had been buying large amount of cannabis but selling to his friends but not at a profit,’ said Ms Neville.

‘He doesn’t deal drugs in that sense. He is supplying but not for profit.’

She said he works five or six days a week and has been living in Ireland for 19 years and is in a house share in Bandon with other men.

‘He does use drugs and dabbles with it out of boredom and isn’t a big drinker.’

‘Drugs are illegal and it’s a very serious offence to be supplying drugs to others,’ said Judge Joanne Carroll.

She requested a probation report and two random urine samples and adjourned the case to July 3rd.
