A MAN who was found drunk at the entrance to a Macroom supermarket paid €50 to the Court Poor Box and was placed on a six-month probation bond.

Jeremiah Twomey (63), of Graigue, Inchigeela, Macroom, pleaded guilty to being drunk in a public place.

Macroom District Court heard that on October 8th last gardaí received a call about a man who was heavily intoxicated at the entrance of SuperValu on the Main Street.

They  found the accused unable to stand when they arrived and he was arrested.

Mr Twomey had four previous convictions, including two for being drunk in a public place.

Defence solicitor Patrick Goold said his client had an alcohol problem and had made serious attempts to address it.

Judge Joanne Carroll placed him on a bond on condition that he attends for alcohol addiction treatment and for counselling as advised.
