THE ROAD Safety Authority (RSA) has advised road users to take extra care while driving over the coming days.
The warning comes as Met Éireann has issued a weather advisory across the country, where spells of heavy rain falling on saturated ground will lead to localised and river flooding, as well as difficult travelling conditions.
The advisory runs until Monday February 9th for the whole country, but particularly for southern and eastern coastal counties.

When rain falls on saturated ground, in combination with high river levels and high tides, flooding will occur.
The RSA has advised drivers to allow greater braking distance between themselves and the vehicle in front, and to take care when driving behind goods vehicles as spray generated could reduce visibility.
The association said that drivers should not attempt to drive through flooded roads as the water may be deeper than it seems and contain debris not visible from the road.
If you have driven through water, drive slowly with your foot on the brake pedal for a short distance to help dry the brakes.
Cyclists are advised to ensure than they and their bike are visible to other road users by wearing high visibility material and using front and rear lights on their bicycle.
The RSA recommended road users to check local traffic and weather conditions before setting out on a journey.
