DESPITE a number of arrests for drug possession and public order incidents at the Kinsale 7s rugby event last weekend, gardaí said that overall people were well behaved over the popular bank holiday weekend event now in its 35th year, writes Sally Collins.

Five people were arrested for the possession of drugs while gardaí arrested one person for the possession of drugs for the purpose of sale or supply.

Speaking to The Southern Star Insp Emmet Daly of Bandon Garda Station said five people were arrested for public order offences, while two people were arrested for drink driving.

There was also a report of a minor assault was reported to gardaí, which is currently being investigated by gardaí. ‘Overall people attending the event were good and well behaved,’ said Insp Daly.

The annual Kinsale Rugby 7s tournament is the club’s main fundraiser and a hugely popular event for locals and visitors alike but had in recent years seen several attendees appear in the district courts for the possession of cocaine.
