A TALK by Dr Abdelfattah Abusrour will be held at the Marino Church on May 18th at 7pm.

Dr Abusrour founded Alrowwad Cultural and Arts Society, in Aida refugee camp, Bethlehem, Palestine in 1998.

He pioneered the philosophy of ‘Beautiful Resistance’  - a creative, peaceful approach that uses theatre, performing and visual arts to transform trauma into hope, dignity, and peace.

Through this vision, he empowers children, youth, and communities to become peace-builders and active agents of change.

His theatrical works have been staged across Europe, the United States, and the Middle East, amplifying Palestinian voices on global stages.

Thanks to the generosity of Diarmaid Murphy, on Monday May 18th at 7pm, Abdelfattah will give a first-hand account of the impact on Palestinian Identity and Culture from the ongoing occupation.

His work shows how hope and change can come though performing and visual arts.

A poet, playwright, actor, and director, Abdelfattah combines artistic innovation with academic rigour.

He earned his PhD in biological and medical engineering in France (1993), later dedicating his career to education, drama in education, and storytelling as tools for liberation and resilience.

He is also an author and his publications include Handala, Twenty-One Positions: A Cartographic Dream of the Middle East, and Bethlehem Beautiful Resistance Recipes, blending art, memory, and advocacy.

Recognised internationally, Abdelfattah is an Ashoka Fellow (2006), a Synergos Social Innovator (2009–2011), and recipient of numerous honours including the Community Impact award (Stars Foundation, UK, 2017) and the title of Citizen of Honor in Nogent-sur-Oise, France (2017).

Beyond his creative work, he has contributed to educational research, taught drama in education and storytelling at Bethlehem University, and led workshops and conferences worldwide.

Abdelfattah sees his mission is to transform suffering into dignity, to narrate untold stories, and to inspire generations to live for justice, freedom and humanity.

Free entry, but donations to the Alrowwad Cultural and Arts Society will be appreciated on the night.
