‘Michael served in the long tradition of Labour representatives from West Cork and in Dunmanway; as a long serving councillor, as chairperson of Cork County Council, and as a Seantor. His entire career was devoted to public service. He will be greatly
missed.’
Former leader of the Labour Party, Dick Spring said Michael was a ‘stalwart’ in the Labour Party down through the years and made a huge contribution to public life and education, locally and at a
national level.
Michael, who was a cousin to former Cork South West Labour TD Michael McCarthy, is survived by his daughter Julie and son Michael and his extended family.
He will be reposed in O’Neill’s Funeral Home in Dunmanway on Thursday evening from 6.30pm to 8pm with prayers at 8pm. His funeral mass will take place on Friday morning in St Patrick’s Church, Dunmanway followed by a private cremation in Ringaskiddy.
