TY students from Clonakilty Community College are eagerly preparing for their upcoming production ‘Don’t They Know It’s Election Time At All’ which takes place at St Mary’s Drama Theatre in Rossmore on Wednesday 06th and Thursday 07th May
This show will feature a talented cast of students who have been working hard in rehearsals since last September and there will be a new cast each night with a mix of singing, acting and dancing.
‘The world is in turmoil. Trump in throwing out tariffs like confetti. Ireland is in the grip of a recession and facing into a new presidential election. What do they do? Michael Martin decides to call an emergency cabinet meeting to save Ireland – but how?,’ said organisers.

‘Their answer – Ireland Aid – a song concert that will ‘feed the Irish’ based on Bob Geldof’s ‘Feed the World’ model in 1985. With the presidential election looming, some of the potential candidates see the concert as not only a chance of helping Ireland, but boosting their own profile – and so enter on the stage - presidential hopefuls – Michael Flatley ‘Lord of the Dance’, Gerry Adams and his band, ‘The Provisional Kneecap’, Michael Healy Rae who never misses a chance for self-promotion and strangely Donald Trump, who hopes to ‘make America Rock again and take back his County Clare golf course.
An aging and washed up Bono is hosting the event, and the judges are An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Healy and local TD Chris O’ Sullivan. What could go possibly wrong?’
With rehearsals are already underway students are learning their lines, practising choreography and perfecting their performance while other are also helping behind the scenes by designing costumes, organising light and sound and building props.
Doors open at 7pm and curtains will be up at 7:30pm on both nights. Tickets are €15 for adults and €12 for students and OAPs.
