Cork County Council has issued an urgent temporary closing notice for a significant section of the N71 between Bantry and Ballydehob
The closure is necessary to facilitate road construction and resurfacing works and is being implemented in the interest of public safety.
Alternative Routes Detailed
Motorists are strongly advised to follow the fully signposted diversion routes provided by Cork County Council. Local access will be maintained despite the closure.

1. Traffic Between Bantry and Skibbereen
Bantry to Skibbereen: Proceed along the N71 from Bantry Town, then take the R586 (Dunmanway Road) to the junction of the R586 and R594 at Aughaville. Take the R594 from Aughaville to Bauravilla (via Caheragh), and finally the R593 to Skibbereen.
Skibbereen to Bantry: Take the R593 from the N71 at Mill Road to Bauravilla. Take the R594 to Aughaville (via Caheragh), and then the R586 to the junction of the R586 and N71 at Parkana on the outskirts of Bantry Town.
2. Traffic Between Ballydehob and Bantry
Ballydehob to Bantry: Continue from the N71 onto the R592. At the junction with the L4413-49, take the L4413-49 (Church Road), continue to the L4413-28 (through Rathruane More), and then turn left onto the L4413-0. Continue onto the L4412-71 and then the L4412-95 to the junction with the R591. Turn right onto the R591, proceeding via Durrus to meet the N71 at Hollyhill, on the outskirts of Bantry town.
Bantry to Ballydehob: Proceed along the N71 from Bantry, then take the R591 via Durrus to the junction of the R591 and L4412-95 at Drishane. Continue on the L4412-95 to the L4412-71, and then onto the L4413-0. Turn right onto the L4413-28 (through Rathruane More) and onto the L4413-49. Continue on the L4413-49 until the junction with the R592 at Ballydehob.
