A WOMAN who pulled a knife during an argument with her partner has been given a suspended prison sentence and advised to get alcohol treatment.

Marlena Kubiak (41), of The Flatts, Ballymakeera, Macroom pleaded guilty at Macroom District Court to possessing a knife contrary to the Offensive Weapons Act.

The offence relates to an incident at Moneycusker, Toames, Macroom, on December 14th last.

The estranged partner was now back living with her even though the relationship was over, and she had previously taken out a safety order against him, Judge Joanne Carroll noted.

‘That’s a risk she has decided to take on.’

The court heard that the defendant had a drink problem and was attending Alcoholics Anonymous.

She is now three months off drink.

The court heard that she two previous convictions for drink driving, ‘There’s a significant alcohol issue here,’  said Judge Carroll.

She sentenced her to four months in prison but suspended it for 12 months, under the condition that she attends for alcohol addiction treatment.
