KINSALE defeated Clonakilty in a West Cork LGFA derby to maintain their perfect start to the Cork Credit Unions Division 1 county league campaign.

David Coughlan’s side built an impressive 1-9 to 1-2 interval lead and added six second-half points to complete a 1-15 to 1-3 Group 1 victory. A second consecutive Division 1 triumph, hot on the heels of their previous win away to Carrigaline, has Kinsale sitting top of the Group 1 standings.

Caoimhe Horgan was the game’s standout performer, kicking nine points. Áine Kearney’s 1-1 was equally important for the winners who also had Jenny Murphy (0-2), Hannah Deasy, Emma McSweeney and Maisie O’Callaghan (0-1) on their scoresheet. Sinead Crowley (1-0), Siofra Pattwell (0-2) and Fiadh Pattwell (0-1) were Clonakilty’s scorers.

Another scheduled Division 1 Group 1 fixture between O’Donovan Rossa and Carrigaline did not go ahead due to a bereavement in the Skibbereen area.

Aghada and St Val’s Division 1 Group 2 game did not disappoint in Rostellan. The hosts emerged narrow one-point winners, 1-10 to 1-9, to make it three county league victories out of three.

Both of Castlehaven and Mourneabbey’s Division 1 Group 2 senior county league and U21A county final fixtures were postponed due to a bereavement.

The format of this year’s Division 1 county league will see the top four ranked clubs in each group, once every team has completed four fixtures, meet in the quarter-league finals. The bottom placed clubs in each group will meet in a Division 1 relegation play-off.

That same format applies to Division 2 where Bantry Blues lost for the second time in a row in Division 2 despite another spirited performance. The West Cork club travelled to Ovens on Sunday to face reigning Cork LGFA senior A county champions Éire Óg. As expected, the hosts proved too strong and, amid windy conditions, registered a convincing 3-14 to 0-3 win.

Aoibhinn Goulding, Laura Cleary and Méabh McGoldrick found the net for Éire Óg with Aoife Kingston kicking all three of the Blues’ points. Despite the defeat, Ella Foley, Kate McCarthy, Cliodhna O’Shea, Bernadette O’Flynn, Molly O’Sullivan, Aoife Kingston and Ciara Kelly shone for Bantry. Elsewhere in Group 1, Bishopstown overwhelmed Bride Rovers 5-16 to 0-8.

In Group 2 of the same division, Valley Rovers fell to a heavy 5-14 to 1-2 defeat away to Midleton. Rosscarbery’s scheduled Group 2 clash with Inch Rovers was postponed.

Bandon, Dohenys and Tadhg MacCárthaigh remain in promotion contention from Division 3.

Tadhg MacCárthaigh were handed a walkover from Donoughmore and earned a share of the division’s lead alongside Nemo Rangers, Mallow and their West Cork rivals.

Nemo and Bandon’s game was postponed but Dohenys’ fixture away to Erin’s Own went ahead. A high-scoring encounter saw the visitors emerge 4-15 to 2-13 winners.

Michelle Love was in excellent form and scored 2-4 in her team’s second victory in three league fixtures. Dohenys’ other scorers included Kellie Ann Buttimer (1-3), Ava O’Donovan (0-5), Ciara Aherne (0-2), Clara Duggan and Claire Hurley (0-1 each).

Mallow reaffirmed their Division 3 title credentials with an emphatic 5-26 to 2-2 win at home to Araglen Desmonds Buí.

Beara still awaits their first Division 4 county league point following the postponement of last Sunday’s game with Abhainn Dalla.

Elsewhere in Division 4, leaders Ballincollig maintained their unbeaten run with a 2-11 to 2-3 defeat of Ballinora. St Finbarr’s overcame Watergrasshill 1-14 to 2-5 and Rockbán proved too strong for Kilshannig, winning for the second time in the league, 5-9 to 2-3.

The Ilen Rovers team that maintained their impressive start and lead of the Cork Credit Unions Cork LGFA Division 6 county league away to St Colman’s last weekend.

Ilen Rovers sit proudly at the top of Division 6 following a third consecutive victory for the West Cork club.

Travelling to St Colman’s, Rovers were quickly out of the traps and built a 4-6 to 1-3 interval lead. Ilen added two further green flags and ran out convincing 6-11 to 3-7 winners to leapfrog St Colman’s into Division 6’s top spot.

Carla O’Regan (2-5) and Kate Carey (2-4) provided the bulk of Ilen’s scores on a day Clare Collins (2-1) and Keelin Murphy (0-1) also contributed. Next up for Ilen is a home fixture against Kildorrery on the weekend of April 25th and 26th.

There was more good news for the West Cork club with confirmation that their rearranged 2025 Junior D county final against Ballinhassig will take place in Timoleague on Sunday, April 19th at 2pm.

Muintir Gabriels produced another excellent effort to see off Grenagh, away from home, 2-16 to 3-7. That Division 8 Group 2 victory keeps Gabriels neck and neck with fellow leaders Mitchelstown and with a game in hand.

Kilmacabea lost for the first time in Division 8 following a 2-9 to 0-10 Group 1 defeat away to Na Piarsaigh. Level with ten minutes to go, Na Piarsaigh pulled away despite Kellianne French, Nell Kinsella (0-3 each), Lauren O’Donovan (0-2), Katelyn French and Alannah Prendergast (0-1 each) scoring for the West Cork club.

In the same division, Keelnameela’s scheduled Group 2 fixture away to Castlemagner was postponed. The West Cork club remains in a share of second place alongside Dripsey and Ballycastle.
