EOIN O’Callaghan set a new personal best in the decathlon to reach the qualification standard for the World U20 Championships in Oregon this August.

The Bandon AC rising star scored 7145 points when he finished second at the Dutch U20 Decathlon Meet in Heerenveen, The Netherlands.

Beating his previous decathlon PB of 7023 points, and in his first decathlon since the U18 Europeans in Slovakia 2024, Eoin (18) highlighted his potential with a string of top-class performances.

He set new personal records in the 100m (11.06), 110m hurdles (14.44), pole vault (4.00m) and 400m (49.44). On top of that, Eoin impressed in the javelin (44.80m), long jump (6.46m), shot put (15.03m), high jump (1.84m), discus (36.83) and 1500m (4.41.79).

Twelve months ago, Eoin tore his meniscus, and has worked extremely hard to get back on track. Now, he is getting the reward.
