NICOLA Tuthill powered to the top of the podium as she won the women’s hammer throw at the Halplus Werfertage meet in Halle, Germany.

The Kilbrittain woman triumphed in style, winning with her second furthest throw ever, 71.98m.

Going into her sixth and final throw, Tuthill sat in second place with her best effort of 71.15m, but produced the goods with her monstrous last throw that was just short of 72 metres.

It meant that the UCD AC athlete finished ahead of Iceland’s Gudrun Halgrimsdottir, who had led with her early throw of 71.81m.

In March, Tuthill threw a new personal best of 72.48m to win silver at the European Throwing Cup in Nicosia. It moved her closer to Eileen O’Keeffe’s national record of 73.21m.
