AHEAD of his last game as Barnsley boss, Conor Hourihane has penned a goodbye note to the club’s fans.
As a player first, and now head coach, the Bandon man has a strong attachment to the club he first joined in 2014. In that spell, he captained the Tykes to EFL League Trophy success and also a League One promotion play-off final win, both victories at Wembley.
In January 2017, Hourihane left Barnsley to join Aston Villa, but returned to the club as a player/coach in the summer of 2024 before progressing to take over as head coach 12 months ago.

It was recently announced that Hourihane is leaving the role at the end of the season, which is home to Stockport this Saturday afternoon.
‘My last game at Oakwell on Saturday, a day I’ll enjoy and cherish. The last 15 months have been incredible, lots of ups and downs and challenges daily. I’ve taken so many learning experiences from it all to make me better moving forward,’ Hourihane wrote on his Instagram.
‘Thanks to the club, players and staff for all the help, hard work and support during my time.
‘To the fans, thank you for all your support, to play and manage the club has been a great honour and in both roles I gave it my all.
‘Time to recharge but excited to see what’s next!’
