THE rise of Carbery camogie was celebrated at the division’s recent awards night in Clonakilty, where local players who lined out with Cork teams in 2025 took centre stage.

It’s an important event, now in its third year, as it highlights the growing strength of camogie across the division.

‘The purpose of the Carbery Camogie Awards Evening is to celebrate and acknowledge the players from Carbery camogie clubs who represented Cork in 2025,’ chairperson Teddy O’Regan explains.

‘In addition, we presented medals to clubs who won the Carbery camogie championships at various grades.

‘The awards recognise these achievements and aim to encourage players and their families to continue with this wonderful sport, while inspiring every girl in West Cork to try camogie and join their local club.’

Four Carbery players were involved with the Cork senior panel in 2025, including three-time All-Star Libby Coppinger (St Colum’s), as well as Millie Condon (Ballinascarthy), Ciara O’Sullivan (Newcestown), and Claire Kingston (Newcestown). The good news is that number has been boosted this season by the addition of Enniskeane’s Daire O’Brien.

‘In 2025, Carbery clubs featured prominently at the knockout stages of the championship, from U14 right up to premier intermediate,’ O’Regan added.

‘This year, four Carbery clubs will participate in the premier intermediate camogie championship with realistic ambitions of advancing to senior.

‘In addition to senior, Carbery players have represented Cork at U23, minor, U17, U16, U15, and U14. It is fitting that we celebrate their achievements. Representing Cork teams is a clear verification of the high standard of camogie in Carbery.’

With the supply chain from Carbery to Cork inter-county squads in strong health, local players continue to put the region firmly on the camogie map.
