RACING starts on Saturday in Brandenburg, Germany, at the U19 European Rowing Championships, where the top junior crews from across Europe will compete.

Three young rowers from Skibbereen Rowing Club will be in action.

The championships mark the first major international regatta of the 2026 High Performance season and provide an important opportunity for Ireland’s emerging athletes to gain valuable international racing experience.

Junior Women's Double Sculls (JW2x):  Gaby Nagle (Fermoy Rowing Club) and Holly O’Flynn (Skibbereen Rowing Club) will race in the Junior Women’s Double Sculls. Thirteen crews will compete in this category, with tomorrow’s heats progressing to the semi-finals on Saturday afternoon. Heat: Saturday, May 23rd – 9.10 am IST.  

Junior Men's Double Sculls (JM2x): The Junior Men’s Double Sculls crew consists of Harry McCartney (Methodist College Belfast Rowing Club) and Sam Wheeler-O’Brien (Skibbereen Rowing Club). Seventeen crews will contest this category, with heats progressing to the semi-finals on Saturday or Sunday’s C finals. Heat: Saturday, May 23rd – 8.55 am IST. 

Junior Men's Pair (JM2-): Mattias Cogan (Skibbereen Rowing Club) and Evan O’Byrne (St Michael’s Rowing Club) will race in the Junior Men’s Pair. Eleven crews will compete in this category, with heats progressing to the A and B finals. Heat: Saturday, May 23rd – 8.40 am IST.  

Junior Men's Four (JM4-): Conal Gillard (Lee Rowing Club), Darragh Collins (Athlone Boat Club), Henrikas Janisionis (Lee Rowing Club) and Emmett Villing (Neptune Rowing Club) will compete in the Junior Men’s Four. Ten crews will race in this category, with heats progressing to the A and B finals. Heat: Saturday, 23rd May – 9.35 am IST
