COUNCILLORS are making the case to have motorists on the approach to Ballydehob village slowed in their tracks, writes Jackie Keogh.
Cllr Finbarr Harrington (Ind) tabled a motion at a meeting of the West Cork Municipal District calling on Cork County Council to write to Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
He said they want the 50kph speed limit sign moved at least 250m towards Skibbereen on the N71 approach to the village of Ballydehob, adding: ‘It will make it much safer for the buses, and the many people using the new bus stops.’

Cllr George Gill (FF) agreed it is necessary to reduce speed on the approach road, and Cllr Danny Collins (Ind Ire) supported the motion saying: ‘We might have to wait two more years before the next review, but let’s write to them now and make the request.’
Engineer Kevin Lynch said officials would write to TII as the relocation of signs is likely to warrant a road safety audit.
