FOURTH year students from Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí have developed an innovative application, which is set to revolutionise cardiac care across Ireland.

Their project, Code 4 Life, addresses a vital public health issue - survival rates for out of hospital cardiac arrests remain below 10%, despite significant investments in public access defibrillators across the country.

The group studied the Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest Register recent reports, consulted healthcare professionals, and surveyed their community on AED location knowledge, and ability and willingness to use an AED if needed.

They have created the Code 4 Life App, and one tap shows you the nearest AED – where it is, and how to access it.

Their offline capability ensures it works even in areas with poor phone signal.

The group has worked with the National Ambulance Service, West Cork Rapid Response, An Garda Siochana, County Cork Fire Service and the HSE.
