THE Skibbereen Active Retirement and Social Club recently celebrated 20 years.

When the club first began no one imagined just how much it would grow and just how much laughter it would hold or how many friendships it would spark.

It was amazing to have some of the founder members present at the celebration -  Catriona Buckley, Nuala O’Halloran, Sheila Hill, Sheila O’Regan, Betty Breen, Breda O’Connor, Mary Shelling, Mary O’Connor and Tim Whooley.

This isn’t just a club, it’s a lifeline for many giving social connection, good company and a sense of belonging.

It keeps its members active, laughing and living with purpose.

The group is grateful to the Family Resource Centre for the use of their premises for chair yoga, chair Pilates and art class and to the Skibbereen Sports Centre for the use of their hall for bowls.

One of the things the club is most proud of is that it is truly inclusive and welcoming to everyone,  no matter their background, ability or how long they have lived in the area, all members will find a warm welcome.

As the group celebrates 20 years, they look forward to many more years of friendship, fun and community together.
